We do merit increases throughout the year on a person's eligibility date - which is the date they complete their probationary period.

We do ours on January 1st because of our budget cycle, but it's an administrative challenge.  Sworn personnel receive their increases on anniversary date.

We do ours on position date.  So an employee may have an original hire date, but a different position date if they have changed jobs within the county.

Do you give merit increases on anniversary dates or to all on a specific date?  Currently we give merit increases in January, but would like to know what others are doing and the advantages or disadvantages to either way.
